Review: Xero Shoes Aqua X Sport is a Summer Runner

Disclaimer: I received these shoes as a product tester. I am proud to be a Xero Shoes Ambassador and affiliate, and may receive compensation for sales completed through my affiliate link.

Xero Shoes’ new water shoe, the Aqua X Sport, is something special. Its main design is for it to be used for water sports/activities. You can instantly tell this from the extremely breathable upper material, the slip on design, and the elastic bungee tie laces. This is an incredible shoe to take on your next trip to the lake. But, as I’ve come to learn and love from Xero Shoes, this is NOT a one-trick pony.

To start things off, I did stick to the original design purpose for the testing of this shoe. No surprise it performed as advertised. The Aqua X Sport is light and airy, and perfectly made to be submerged in and out of water during activity. It transitions perfectly and then quickly dries out. The upper material is also incredibly comfortable against your bare skin. It’s almost silky!

With the men’s model weighing in it at 7.2 ounces each, and a comfortable 3mm athletic EVA insole, the Aqua X Sport was calling for more action than just water sports. Being primarily a runner, I could tell right away that this might be an excellent running shoe for either the trails or the road. The traction on the Aqua X Sport is what really sets this shoe apart from the others. Both in and out of the water, the grip is fantastic. I just knew that these were calling for some mileage.

So after traipsing through the creek and doing some kayaking, the Aqua X Sport and I hit the track for our first run together. The slip-on design and bungee laces made for an easy and secure fit. The light materials and the breathable upper made it feel like I was really barefoot since I could literally feel the wind on my toes. Again, because the Aqua X Sport is so comfy, I didn’t need to wear any socks either. I alternated with and without during the runs to see how both options felt, and am happy to report that both are great.

As the weather begins to warm up, I can see the Aqua X Sport being one of my primary activity shoes. It has proven to be able to go literally anywhere and do anything. It’s so responsive and secure that I’ll be racing in it this season, as well taking it on the water for paddle trips.
